Northumbria

GGK wrote this poem for Dorothy Dunnett, the historical fiction writer, many years ago. Dorothy Dunnett sadly passed away on the 9th of November (2001) and GGK sent me this never-published piece the next day for Bright Weavings, in memoriam.

 NORTHUMBRIA

                            for Dorothy Dunnett

      and I saw horsemen:
Indentations in the sky
Above the heathered hills,
Running away to Scotland
Four hundred years ago.
The hills are then
As easily as now.
The morning light
Seems to want those riders
As much as I,
Appearing in bright felicity
To shine on other times,
Other worlds than this.
