Warp and Weft: The Brightweavings Newsletter
September 2009
**********
It has been an eventful few months, which makes for another lengthy newsletter. We'll start off the most recent exciting development, but there is quite a lot of other good news to share...
Announcing the UNDER HEAVEN Tour Journal
**********
As with his last two novels, GGK will be writing to an online journal on Brightweavings during the run up to publication next April (in English-speaking markets) for his latest novel, UNDER HEAVEN. In the first entry, posted today, GGK writes "One of the things I try to do with these journals is give readers a glimpse into the changes in the publishing world, and what is involved in the process by which an author's manuscript (often just electronic these days) morphs into a book you buy on shelves, or download in e-book form, or as an audio book. (Those last two are part of the changing landscape, of course.)"
You can read the journal here: http://www.brightweavings.com/forums/messages/143081/143081.html.
Comments and questions related to the journal are welcome and encouraged - a special thread for them has been started here: http://www.brightweavings.com/forums/messages/143082/143083.html

In a piece for The Guardian, GGK shared some of his thoughts on the use of real people in fiction: http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/booksblog/2009/aug/20/novelists-real-life-characters. There is also a response to comments here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/booksblog/2009/aug/20/novelists-real-life-characters?commentid=a69f47c6-fb98-45ac-9121-b761c4f958fd
In the August edition of LOCUS magazine, there is a round table discussion with GGK, Cecelia Holland, Gary K. Wolfe, and the late and sorely missed Charles N. Brown. Excerpts may be read here: http://us.mg2.mail.yahoo.com/dc/launch?.gx=1&.rand=dv3ub7ul639el .
For those who are curious about what sorts of things are discussed on a WorldCon panel, here is a partial, paraphrased transcript from a panel moderated by GGK at the WorldCon in Montreal (thanks to Niall Harrison at Torque Control): http://vectoreditors.wordpress.com/2009/09/03/panel-notes-we-are-the-knights-who-say-f/
